ABOUT US

The Exiled Voice is a podcast solely dedicated to true stories of personal experience. We began as an idea that formulated in the mind of Joshua Wright while they were imprisoned in Portland, OR, pushed forward with the assistance of Jeffrey Gosda, and supported by many. Our goal is to bring about the awareness of the horror and trauma that is prison, in the hope that those who hear what we’ve endured are activated by these injustices, and continue our work towards abolition. We thank you for your time.

Joshua Edward Wright

Creator, Interviewer & Executive Director

Joshua Wright spent 50 months imprisoned. During that time, they were able to accomplish such things as co-found Liberation Literacy; name and co-create ALL RISE Magazine, and start the first Gender and Sexuality class in the Oregon Department of Corrections. They currently live in Portland and continue to engage in community organizing, education, and activism, with a main focus of social justice and prison abolition.

Jessica Lee

Jessica is a strong advocate for and with those with autism, as well as an adamant defender of women’s rights. She loves being in nature and comes with a useless (but extremely enjoyable) B.A. from the University of Washington. After recently switching careers from the medical field, she works as a freelance digital marketer for projects and websites such as this one.

Bryan Miller

Audio Editor

Bryan is originally from the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. He moved to Portland to attend Lewis and Clark College where he graduated from last year with a degree in English and History. In his last semester, Bryan took LC’s Inside Out class. Though the semester was cut short by the pandemic, the class had a huge impact on him and he is excited to lend his audio-editing skills to the fight against the carceral state!

Jeffrey Gosda

Director of Operations

Jeff began volunteering at a local prison in 2017 when he was heard a friend’s story of incarceration and release.  His initial exposure to the Prison Industrial Complex opened his eyes to the outrageous injustice inflicted on men and women who fall victim to our outdated and ineffective method of ‘restorative justice’.  He began to volunteer at Columbia River Correctional Institution (CRCI) through Phoenix Rising Transitions, applying the Saul Alinsky model of Community Organizing to work for the rights of our incarcerated brothers and sisters.  While volunteering with Phoenix, he met Joshua, who continues to inspire him to fight for those with a silenced voice daily.  He is also inspired to do Equality and Social Justice work as part of his strong faith teachings.  Jeff maintains a role as a Board Member for Phoenix Rising Transitions, also as a Strategy Team Member of the Metropolitan Alliance for Common Good.  Jeff works in the private sector as a Director.  His undergraduate work was in Political Science with a focus on Modern British Political Theory and modern languages of French and Japanese.  He also had the honor of reading Law at New College, Oxford. In his spare time, he tries to keep his Pugs, Winston and Churchill from making rude noises during Zoom calls, and is learning Mandarin Chinese.  His muse is travel and Opera.
